Candidate Filing & Local Election Calendar Watch

Why this is recommended

A school board seat with no candidates and a filing deadline in three weeks, a $50 filing fee and 25 signatures to get on a city ballot, a special election in the member's district with a 10 percent turnout, a mail ballot deadline for a bond measure, or a free candidate training program are each worth the membership to anyone who wants a say in their town.

What the Tab covers

Who it is for

The million Americans who have thought about running for the school board, the voters who miss local elections because nobody told them the date and the neighbors who found out the seat was uncontested after the deadline.

When it runs

Election offices post filing windows and deadlines on weekdays, often months before anyone pays attention

Suggested task

The objective your Tab starts with. You can edit every line of it once the Tab is yours.

Candidate filing windows, fees and signature requirements for city council, school board, county, judicial and state legislative seats by state and major city, uncontested seat and vacancy announcements, special election dates and calendars, voter registration, mail ballot and early voting deadlines for local elections, ballot measure qualification deadlines and results, local election date changes and consolidations, candidate training and nonpartisan run-for-office programs, campaign finance filing deadlines and thresholds for small races, election official and poll worker recruitment and redistricting changes to local districts, with the jurisdiction or office first and the deadline in the title, strictly nonpartisan.

Track local election participation in the United States, strictly nonpartisan. Report only confirmed, source-backed items from the last 7 days: candidate filing windows, fees and signature requirements opening or closing in the next 60 days for city council, school board, county, judicial, special district and state legislative seats by state and in the 100 largest cities; uncontested seat and vacancy announcements; special election dates and calendars; voter registration, mail ballot and early voting deadlines for local elections in the next 45 days; ballot measure qualification deadlines and results; local election date changes and consolidations; nonpartisan candidate training and run-for-office program openings; campaign finance filing deadline and threshold changes for small races; election official and poll worker recruitment; and redistricting changes to local districts. Prefer state and county election offices, secretaries of state, city clerks, school districts and established local reporting; ignore partisan sources, and never characterize candidates or positions. Put the jurisdiction or office first in the title with the deadline. Use high severity for a filing deadline within 21 days for an uncontested or vacant seat, a special election within 30 days, or a registration deadline within 14 days. Return no more than 8 findings. Push each as a finding with a title, a two-sentence summary, sections for the office or election, the requirements, the deadline, where to file or vote, and the source link. If nothing qualifies, push nothing and submit the run receipt.
