Outdoor App & GPS Subscription Watch

Why this is recommended

A free tier that lost offline maps the week before a backcountry trip, a $36 a year plan that became $80 with a lock-in window, a privacy default that published the member's home location, or a satellite plan that doubled are each worth the membership to anyone who relies on the app where there is no signal.

When it runs

Track outdoor and fitness apps for US users. Report only confirmed, source-backed items from the last 7 days: price, plan and feature changes at Strava, AllTrails, Garmin Connect and Connect+, onX, Gaia GPS and Outside+, CalTopo, Komoot, Ride with GPS, Trailforks, FarOut, Hiking Project, Avenza, Topo Maps+, PeakVisor, Windy and Mountain Project; free tier and offline map removals; subscription and satellite messaging plan changes at Garmin inReach, Apple Watch, Coros, Suunto, Zoleo and SPOT; data sharing, heatmap and privacy setting changes with the opt-out steps; outages over two hours on a weekend or holiday; map data accuracy issues and safety advisories from the app or land managers; lifetime and legacy plan honoring decisions; and launches of free alternatives with offline maps. Prefer company announcements and release notes, app store listings, land managers and established outdoor reporting; ignore unverified complaints. Put the app first in the title with the price and the date. Use high severity for a free tier losing offline maps, a price increase of 30 percent or more with a lock-in window closing within 14 days, a privacy default change, or a safety advisory. Return no more than 6 findings. Push each as a finding with a title, a two-sentence summary, sections for what changed, who it affects, what to do, the deadline, and the source link. If nothing qualifies, push nothing and submit the run receipt.
